Tops & Bottoms for early childhood development, Plants 101 for grades K-3 and Math at the Gardens for grades 4-6 are designed to support curricula needs in Fox Cities area schools and meet Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction Standards. Please see brochures attached below.

(Early Childhood Development) 

Tour Gardens of the Fox Cities during a hands-on and feet-moving field trip! Explore the Gardens using your senses and review plant structure in the learning stations: story time, play a game, and make art.

Plants 101 (Grades K-3)

This engaging educational experience will include a tour of Gardens of the Fox Cities and rotation through hands-on learning stations.  Throughout, students will learn and review the structure, function, needs, and importance of plants, and plant life cycle including pollination. Learning Stations include

Parts of the Plant, What a Plant Needs to Grow, and Our Friendly Pollinators.

Math at the Gardens

(Grades 4-6)

Fourth through sixth grade students will examine how gardeners, farmers, and naturalists use math on a regular basis. They will practice math skills and review the importance of plants participating in real-world activities. Your visit will include two hands-on lessons and a phenology tour of Gardens of the Fox Cities.

 

Hands-on lessons are: Roots & Shoots and Value of Vegetables.  Students will work together on hands-on activities in small groups and discuss findings as a large group.  During the outdoor phenology tour, students will act as citizen scientists and contribute their phenological observations to our phenolog.

New Out-of-Classroom Learning Experience Opportunity 

 

Gardens of the Fox Cities and Building for Kids join together Plants 101 and Super Kids Save the World, out of classroom learning experiences for students in grades K-3, together in a one day field trip.

 

Dates available for registration are Wednesdays, Feb. 1, Feb. 8, Feb. 15, Mar. 7, Mar. 14, Mar. 21, & Mar. 28.

 

Morning session and lunch at The Building for Kids (2.5 hours)

 

Afternoon session at Gardens of the Fox Cities (1.5 hours)

 

Plants 101 - Participate in an engaging winter opportunity in the Scheig Learning Center.  Our Plants 101 experience will include a rotation through hands-on learning stations, including a seed needs game, take-home planting project, and vermicomposting lesson. Learning stations are: Parts of the Plant, What a Plant Needs to Grow, Our Friendly Pollinators, and Meet Red Wigglers. Throughout, students will learn and review the structure, function, needs, and importance of plants. Meets WDPI Science Standards F.4.1, F.4.2,F.4.3,F.4.4 

 

Super Kids Save the World

Play and explore Super Kids Save the World, a traveling exhibit focusing on the Four R's: Reduce, Recycle, Repair and Reuse. In conjunction with this exhibit, students will participate in a one-hour, hands-on science lab experience: I Can Make Clean Water.  The lesson will challenge students to create and test a water filtering system to answer the question, "What can I do to make clean water?"

Connections to Curriculum and National Education Standards: Science (NSES) and Health (NHES)

 

To register your school group:

- Call The Building for Kids at 920-734-3226

- Limited to 40 students per session; Groups larger than 30 may be split into two smaller, rotating groups

- $5.50 per student; There is no charge for teachers and chaperones; A ratio of four students to one adult is suggested

- Should be scheduled at least two weeks in advance

- Availability is upon a first-come, first-serve basis

- Payment is due at least two weeks in advance to The Building for Kids.
