America's Colonial Cities
We begin our tour in the historic areas of Virginia that surround Richmond – in gardens planted with the herbs, vegetables and flowers of our colonial forefathers. We'll go back in history to visit the sites of some of America's first European settlements, see where Patrick Henry delivered his famous "Give me liberty or give me death" speech, and enjoy the grounds of classic plantations as well as elegant country estates. Fast-forwarding to current times, we'll stroll through acres of lovely display gardens and learn about the latest in bulb care and cultivation from experts in the field as we enjoy exclusive tours of the home, nursery and "living catalogue" gardens of bulb hybridizers Brent & Becky Heath.

America's Capital City
It's impossible not to be amazed by the monuments, memorials and renowned cultural institutions of Washington DC. And just as impossible not to feel a surge of patriotic pride while walking the halls and grounds of grand federal buildings where the principals of our democracy are upheld. We'll enjoy an overview tour of the city in all its springtime glory, then have free time to return to favorite areas or explore some of the many museums and galleries that enrich our vibrant capital. Meticulous formal gardens and charming rural spaces will provide us with a fascinating variety of landscape styles to admire, with local guides always on hand to share their historical insights and horticultural expertise.

Mount Vernon & the Suburbs
Just beyond the modern-day bustle of the National Mall, world-renowned museums of the Smithsonian, and stirring memorials of the Tidal Basin lie some of the quieter but no less spectacular, tributes to our American spirit. We'll visit the mansion, grounds and gardens of Mount Vernon, President George Washington's expansive estate located on the panoramic banks of the Potomac River and restored to its 1799 appearance. The prestigious Washington DC suburbs of Alexandria, Wheaton and Georgetown sport some of the loveliest gardens in the country – and we'll be visiting the best of them, plus the quaint seaport of Old Town Alexandria.
