Why It’s Called Ruby Waterfalls?

This waterfall is said to be “ruby falls” because the waterfall located in the middle of the vertical limestone shaft eroded by salt water for millions of years ago was discovered by an adventurer with his wife “ruby”. This river and rainwater flows and falls as high as 141 and collects in ponds inside the cave. This water then flows and merges with the Tennessee River at the base of Lookout Mountain. This amazing ruby waterfall is estimated to be 30 million years old.

Ruby Falls Cave, different to Lookout mountain cave, it does not have a natural path that can be traced to the 20th century. In 1905 the natural road to Mount Cave Lookout was closed due to the construction of a railway tunnel. Leo Lambert, a local mountain fan and observer, decided to reopen the road there and formed a company to handle it. After the drilling began in 1982, they found an underground passageway as far as 260 feet.
